Highly desirable fabrics such as this one are rare these days due to an ever increasing demand. Made from various patches all in indigo blue, this piece is fantastic, not only due to its sheer size.

History  

Meiji period, around 1870s.

Fabric  

Cotton and hemp, homespun and hand-loomed. All natural dyes.

Condition

  • Despite its old age, the fabric is free from any musty scent as it has been professionally cleaned and carefully ironed to preserve the organic dye. Using traditional organic methods, tiny repairs may have been made to strengthen the fabric.
