Mended Furoshiki with Simplistic Design

A thin furoshiki with two large patches and several small fixes. These furoshiki have been used to wrap food and other precious things. It has a surprisingly modern mosaic design which seems to comprise stylized katakana characters displaying the word “Hane”, which means wing or feathers. This item can be worn as a scarf, handkerchief or bandana.

History

Meiji or Taisho period, around 1910. Kanazawa, central Japan.

Fabric  

Cotton homespun and hand-loomed. All natural dyeing techniques.
